Thank you for your interest in partnering with Habitat. 2020 applications are canceled due to COVID-19.
The first half of 2020 has brought unimaginable challenges to individuals and families in our community. Businesses and nonprofit organizations like ours are facing challenges too. Due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, we are canceling our 2020 Homeownership Program application cycle.
This past March, we closed our build sites and ReStore to help slow the spread of COVID-19. The health and safety of our staff, volunteers, supporters, and future homeowners has been and remains our top priority. This shutdown, however, severely slowed our construction schedule. We have four houses under construction currently and still have several families in our pipeline to build for this coming year. We are working tirelessly to honor the commitments we made to these future homeowners and are doing everything we can to get our construction efforts back on schedule.
Our annual application cycle takes place in August each year. While we will not be accepting applications this year, we are working on opportunities to increase services and resources to help our community. We are committed to working with families to help them prepare for homeownership—whether in our program or elsewhere. Additional information will be shared with you in the months ahead regarding our next application cycle which will open in August 2021. In the meantime, we will do what we can to assist in other ways.
This was a very difficult decision to make. Helping families in our community achieve homeownership is our mission. While we are disappointed to cancel our 2020 application cycle, we look forward to coming into next year’s application period in a stronger position.
Please continue to check back here for additional resources over the next few months. If you have additional questions, please contact homeownership coordinator, Theresa, at (402) 480-6205.
As a homeowner you have an increased responsibility of home and community upkeep. Living in a stable and safe home is influential to a positive future of children and families. Homeownership is important to children and youth because it improves health and academic performance.
Habitat homeowners are chosen based on their need for housing, income level, and willingness to partner with Habitat for Humanity of Lincoln. Qualifying families income is below 50% of the median income for Lancaster County. Habitat homeowners pay an affordable mortgage. Mortgage payments are recycled into the building fund, which is used for the construction of more homes.
Many faith, business and community partners contribute funding, construction labor, lunch and much more to each home that is built in our community.
