About Us

Our Mission

To bring people together to build homes, communities and hope. Our vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live.

About Us

Habitat for Humanity of Lincoln is a 501c3 charitable nonprofit organization that brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. We were established in 1988 by local community members, faith leaders and city officials to address the need for affordable housing.

Thirty five years later, we have built or repaired more than 199 local homes; housing more than 825 men, women and children. We have also served nearly as many globally through Habitat for Humanity International's tithe program, serving thousands of individuals.

We work toward our vision of building strength, stability and self-reliance in partnership with families in need of decent and affordable housing. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage.

Habitat for Humanity is a global nonprofit housing organization working in local communities in all 50 states in the U.S. and in approximately 70 countries.

Why Affordable Housing?

Every day, more and more families are struggling to find and keep a decent roof over their heads.

With unpredictable rent increases, overcrowded conditions or lack of access to affordable financing, these families live with the constant stress of uncertainty and fear.

We know that a safe, decent and affordable home plays a critical role in helping families build strength, stability and self-reliance. It opens opportunities and builds confidence to invest in themselves and their communities.

Studies conducted by academics and experts draw a straight line between housing quality and the well-being of children. Surveys of Habitat homeowners show improved grades, better financial health, and parents who are less stressed to meet their family's needs.

All Are Welcome

Habitat for Humanity of Lincoln has an open-door policy: All who believe that everyone needs a decent, affordable place to live are welcome to help with the work, regardless of race, religion, age, gender, political views or any of the other distinctions that too often divide people. In short, Habitat welcomes volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds and also serves people in need of decent housing regardless of race or religion. As a matter of policy, Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliated organizations do not proselytize. This means that Habitat will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must either adhere to or convert to a particular faith, or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.

Habitat Lincoln is an Equal Housing Lender organization. Loan decisions are made without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, handicap or familial status.
